Why Busy Christian Moms Struggle to Stay Consistent With Bible Study (and What to Do Instead)

I used to wake up with the best intentions. I’d plan to read my Bible before the kids got up, light a candle, maybe even journal a verse. But most mornings, I scrolled my phone instead. The noise, the notifications, the endless pull—it felt easier than facing my own tired soul.

Then I’d spend the rest of the day anxious, irritable, wondering why I felt disconnected from God. I thought I needed more discipline or a better Bible plan. But really, I just needed something simple enough to meet me where I was.

The Real Reason It’s So Hard to Stay Consistent

It’s not laziness. It’s not a lack of love for God.
It’s the reality of being stretched thin.

Between kids, work, home, and the mental load of “everything,” our minds crave rest—not more tasks. Traditional Bible study methods often feel like another thing on the to-do list. They require quiet, long stretches of focus, and mental energy most of us just don’t have in this season.

We reach for what’s easy: the scroll, the podcast, the quick quote on Instagram. We want to feel close to God, but we’re exhausted.

The truth? The enemy doesn’t have to make you bad—just busy.

The Guilt Loop No One Talks About

We know the Bible gives life. We’ve felt that peace before. But when we fall out of rhythm, guilt creeps in: You should’ve done better. You’re failing at your faith.

That guilt doesn’t draw us closer—it pushes us further away.

I’ve learned that consistency with God doesn’t start with guilt. It starts with grace. He’s not measuring how many chapters you read. He’s inviting you to just open the door again.

A Simpler Way Back to the Word

What if your quiet time didn’t have to be “quiet”?
What if it could fit inside your real life?

I started with one verse a day. Sometimes just one word. I’d write it slowly, trace it, and pray as I went. Over time, those five minutes turned into a rhythm that anchored me—not because it was perfect, but because it was possible.

If you’ve been waiting for the perfect time to start again, stop waiting. Start small. Scripture isn’t asking for your performance. It’s offering presence.

When You Don’t Feel It

Some days, it will feel dry. You’ll read the same verse and wonder if it’s working. But just like showing up for your family builds relationship, showing up for God builds connection—even when it feels ordinary.

Galatians 6:9 (NIV) reminds us:

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

Every small moment in Scripture is planting something deep—even when you don’t see it yet.

Building a Routine That Feeds, Not Drains

Try this rhythm:

  1. Pick one verse or Name of God each day.
Write or trace it by hand.
  2. Ask one question: What does this show me about who God is?
  3. Say one short prayer: “God, help me remember this truth today.”

That’s it. No pressure to finish a chapter. No fancy study setup. Just presence.

You’ll be surprised how God meets you in five intentional minutes.

A Gentle Invitation to Start Again

If you’re craving peace but don’t know where to begin, I made a free 3-Day Draw Near Sampler to help you start small.
It includes printable traceable verses and short reflections you can do in just a few minutes a day.

And if you’re ready for something deeper, the 30-Day Names of God Workbook is what helped me build this new rhythm—a way to meet God not through striving, but through His character.

You don’t need a perfect routine. You just need space for Him.
